I would open a commandline and then type

sudo fdisk -l /dev/sda

after you send this within your reply, we will see what your system
thinks of your disk and where its space might be gone.

I'm sorry to drop in, but I think that this will be better:


sudo fdisk -l /dev/sd*


That's sd*, all disks, not just sda, the first disk.
