In case it not known, you can get ffmpeg from the Ubuntu repository. I
just did and it works fine.

The standard ffmpeg is 'restricted' to non-restricted formats, if you
follow me. If you want the full fat version, enable medibuntu. A
standard system update should then bring in that version.
