Hi Bob - Welcome.
First off, please send plain text mail to the mailing list only please.
See http://www.helpdesk.bham.ac.uk/email/windowsmailplaintext.shtml

I've followed some forums listed below to try and install a web based remote
access but can't seem to get it to work. Have used ms home server and had a
really easy time setting up. Should this really be this difficult?

Well, it's what you are used to - learning new ways of doing things is
never as easy as just adding new knowledge on top of what you already
know. In addition, Linux is so flexible that all the options can be
pretty overwhelming.

Note that the ubuntu-desktop stuff will give you a local GUI, not a
web access panel - that's what the webmin install is for.

I get to the apt repository and then stuck.

Can you expand on 'stuck' please? I don't know what you mean.

Brian
