To Karl and others, I like open office and if I had it my way I would
never EVER!!! touch Microsoft again. Unfortunately My college: Devry
University requires files to submited in the .docx format so I have
to have MS office.
Then you should change colleges. Try this; send them a standard .doc
file (you can create one with OpenOffice.org) and just add an x to the
end (.docx) and see if any of your instructors can tell the difference.

So let me get this straight, make a .doc and manually add an x at the
end of the extension to make it appear as a .docx, works?I thought that
Office 2007 changed the way .doc was written, as a .xml format as before
it was ........

Am I wrong in this assumption?

I have no idea what Office 2007 does with it's Word files.
For all I know they changed it to another editor all together.
That would be stupid but Microsoft is so big it does stupid
things.

But I do not think so. So if the collage needs a x at the end
of .docx ,like that, give it to them. OO writes in it's own
type of file. Then you use save as to make it a Microsoft file
and it ends in .doc as it has for years.

I have answered questions from all versions of Microsoft
Office in just .doc and had zero problems. I get .ppp Power
Point made by Office and they all open and run right in OO.

PS: I don't use MS Office, so any enlightenment for fixing others' would
much appreciated.
