Re: Monitor settings for Acer X223W

I tried to use the "tdfx" driver and the results were not satisfactory
(screen resolution much diminished). So I returned it "vesa".

I added the "1680x1050" mode to each line for depths 1 through 24.
There was no change. Is there some setting that tells Xconfig that the
monitor is a W I D E S C R E E N ?

Cheers,
Jay

Folks,

I recently had to replace my monitor...

Does anyone have settings for an Acer X223W Monitor that yield 1:1
aspect? The way my system is configured the display is in wide screen
and I would much prefer the 1:1 like I am use to having.

I have the following settings in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file:

...
Section "Device"
Identifier "3Dfx Interactive, Inc. Voodoo 3"
Driver "vesa"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Acer X223W"
VendorName "Acer Inc."
ModelName "X223W"
Option "DPMS"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Device "3Dfx Interactive, Inc. Voodoo 3"
Monitor "Acer X223W"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
...
Depth 24
Modes "1280x1024" "1152x864" "1024x768"
"832x624" "800x600" "720x400" "640x480"
EndSubSection
EndSection
...

According to the notes that came with the unit the maximum resolution
is 1680x1050 with a depth of 24. Can I add that resolution to the Modes
line thusly:

Modes "1680x1050" "1280x1024" "1152x864" "1024x768" "832x624"
"800x600" "720x400" "640x480"

Thanks,
Jay

Probably but I?d start by chancing the driver to tdfx which is the correct
driver for your card and seeing what happens then.
