I have a Ubuntu 9.10 installed on X200 Tablet thinkpad
and the Ctrl+ mouse left click for picking separate items / spreadsheet rows
or columns doesn't work, any suggestions?
Thanks,

But WPA / WPA2 is the encryption and has nothing to
do with -b / -g / -n.
That's what I thought.
On my two machines I have different outputs from
the iwlist scan command. On the machine with ipw2200 driver I can see a
line "Protocol:IEEE 802.11bg" or "Protocol:IEEE 802.11g" for the two
available networks at my location. On the machine with ath5k driver I
can't see that information. Maybe that info is hidden in one of the many
lines like "IE: Unknown: 2A0100".
Thanks, that;s good to know. Hopefully someone who knows will chime in!

I had the same issue with my Alienware m15x. Can't recall how I fixed
it without being at the machine itself. Will check tonight.
It was a show-stopper for me as I use the laptop on the quiet coach of
the train every week and thus needed to be able to mute the speakers
to avoid being lynched by other passengers.
Oh, speaking of getting lynched,, I know this is a wasteful work-around,
but for anyone stuck in this predicament and unable to fix it, while
waiting for alsa and jack-sense to catch up to your notebook, what about
usb headphones?

Hi Noop
Thanks

No. I am currently following this one as I have a Conexant chip:

Note: Can you please issue the same commands as I did in my comment #71?

Then perhaps I can help point you to a bug report that is relevant for
your chipset.
Here go the output of the commands:

Thanks, ?Jim
You have probably been hit by this real nasty bug that makes the SSD
look bad (and in fact the blocks act bad until you "zero" them out).
But you can recover from it.
see
There's a workaround in the description, but if you think you are
affected by the bug, a more stable workaround is in comment 147 (or
look at 160 if you find the wording of 147 confusing).
We hope this will be fixed more properly in time for Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid.
Thanks for the pointer to that bug. I will certainly work my way through
the fix in comments 147 & 160 first thing in the morning.
I may be mis-reading it, but it sounds like it is referring to an add in
SSD card. ?I my case the SSD is the only drive in the system. ?Regarding
step number 4. ?In my case the installer never finishes. It hangs at 95%
with a message about a grub-install failure.
Despite those minor concerns this is something I will definitely try, as
I am making no progress now. ?The wipe recommended in step 2 may be
enough to get me going.
Thanks again, ?Jim
The third-party SSD card on my system REPLACES the existing card, and
a few people have found the OEM (manufacturer-supplied) SSD is bitten
by the bug.
It really is a nasty bug, and if you want to "test" for it, look in
some of the early comments when we were trying to pin it down. You can
immediately tell if it's a problem if you invoke the problematic
command.
The only reason I decided you were likely encountering the bug is
because others have seen the problem with a Crucial SSD. Of course
yours could be a different model from the same manufacturer that isn't
affected.
If you do find yourself affected by it, be sure to register for
Launchpad and click the button that says "this bug affects me." You
will probably want to know when/how it gets fixed.

Hi all,
I have an Asus EeePC 1000HE with Ubuntu Netbook Remix installedthe next
time
it on it. Folowing a HOWTO, I added the StstusX repo for the
eeepc-acpi-utilities and the eeepc-tray.
Since then I get a lot better control over my Fn keys and event
notification, but I also got a strange problem with the WiFi card:
Every time I shut down the netbook, either by the Fn+F1 key combo or by
pressing the power button and choosing "Shut Down" - and turn it on again -
the WiFi card setting in the BIOS changes to "Disabled"...
I noticed this while trying to connect to my WiFi at home and I couldn't
find the WiFi option in the Network Manager.
Is this a software or a hardware problem?
I tried turning on the netbook, entering the BIOS, change it to "Enabled",
saving the settings and rebooting to the BIOS again - it stayed
"Enabled"....
Please help!

A suggestion on line revealed that grub was not updated following the
upgrade, to use the new kernel image and hence the no sound problem.
I removed the old kernels via synaptic, ran update-grub and now my
system boots using the new kernel image and so far sound works with
everything I have tried it with so far.
yippee!
However, when I try to run the sound application from
System/Preferences/Sound a dialog says it is waiting for the sound
system to respond, but it never does (for as long as I've waited, a few
minutes).
Running gnome-alsamixer in a terminal window now correctly detects my
sound card and provides appropriate options, so that seems ok too.
This is the first upgrade that I've tried, and apart from this problem
with sound, everything else so far seems to have gone without problem.
I am now using claws mail again after importing the messages from
kmail. The non-standard repos that I had added were commented out for
the upgrade and I have reactivated some and updated without problem.
There are still a number of things to check, but I have to admit it
looks quite good so far when I had expected it to be much more painful!
This is a very big tick for Ubuntu, especially after a "Year of
Hell" (thanks Star Trek), with KDE and Kubuntu. In this case, "I will
not be back". ;)

Sound worked fine without any problems in 9.04. Anyone a suggestion
on how to fix this. I have also run lsmod and all the modules I would
expect to see are there i.e. EMU10K. Clicking on the speaker icon
only gives options to select a sound theme for the desktop, no sound
device is listed on the devices tab.
The card itself is a simple Soundblaster Live.
This sound problem is odd because I also have a platform with Kubuntu
9.10 which I am using at present to do this with kmail. Sound works
like a charm and I have used it quite extensively. But on 9.10 Ubuntu
no card is recognised even?
Any suggestions?
