I need to get one for my dad's new Ubuntu box since his new home
office is inconveniently far away from the switch and router in
his house, and I don't think he's up for running cat 6 cable up
in his ceiling. Not a USB, but a PCI slot card is the order of
business. So if you have personal knowledge of one that already
works with Ubuntu 10.4 I'd like to know about it before spending
any time on wrestling with his computer. I might be willing to
try one that you know works with Ubuntu 9.10. --
I have an Intel Wireless N card. It works out of the box on
Karmic. Plus, it is faster than a "g" card when on a "g"
network.
Foxcon, at one time, also had an open source wireless card. Not
sure about the current status of the card but it had a nice little
antenna that you could stick on top of your computer. But this
Intel card has worked without a hiccup. Second floor with a metal
roof halfway in the way of the router.
There is also a list of Linux friendly wireless cards somewhere out
on the internet. Good luck.
Nice website systemstheory.net <mailto:sdavmor@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>,
BTW.

Thank you Tab for the info. I expect to go with the Intel card just to
minimize any issues. That way my dad can get back to having fun with
*nix and put his Windows laptop back in its box.
I'll make my next comment a "one time only thing" with apologies to
those that might yell "take it sounder".
Systems Theory is in disarray right now. One of our band died of brain
cancer in Nov, and a possible replacement committed suicide 3 weeks
ago. Needless to say everything is in a state of ??? with the project.
We have a new album done ("overfulnoisecascade"), but it's on hold
right now.
In the meantime, our available music + 3 of Greg Amov's solo albums +
all 6 of Mike Dickson's solo albums can be downloaded for free in MP3
format at Mike's site (see my sig file for link). Any comments re: the
music can be left on the project guestbook or emailed to
