Oh! That's strange. I only have it running on my laptop so farI don't know. How do I find out?
(although I've tried the LiveCD on a couple of machines, both 64-bit
and 32-bit). On my somewhat elderly Thinkpad X31, Compiz works fine -
indeed, better than it ever did on 9.x on this machine, where
everything was unusably slow unless I manually disabled DRI in
xorg.conf.
What 3D drivers are you using for it?
post your xorg.conf file. Or see if you have an nvidia-settings
command and if you do what it says when you run it.
xorg.conf does not exist. The upgrade renamed it to
xorg.conf.dist-upgrade-200910171323 which is empty!
Ahhh, right. I think Intel disclosed the details of their (very poor)
3D chipset-integrated graphics, so the standard Free driver has
hardware acceleration and AFAIK there is no proprietary alternative.
As such, I'm not sure there's much you can do, I'm afraid.
I've done some more work on this. I created a new user on my system.
Under the new user everything works exactly as it should, even with
Compiz running, so I'm assuming there is something in my home directory
config files that is causing the problem.
I've deleted ~/.metacity and ~/.compiz as these did not exist under the
new user, but this hasn't helped. Any suggestions?
Regards,
Tony.
