RE: Network Manager Problem...

Ok fellows - - I was in a rush, and had to leave, so I know I did not give much detail, so here is what I can give you...

My wireless route is in another room, and on the computer I have an SMC usb 2.0 adapter the smcwusb-n2, which has worked fine before...But now for some reason my connection which is 100%, gets dropped about ever min, or two, so I have too restart it...

I am running Ubuntu 10.4 Lucid, I was wondering if there is something one can add to a script too keep it active...??? For when I try to download a program, it stops after a period of time which is very annoying...

Thanks Larry

Hey Larry,
Shoo, that's a little information to go with.

I have an Atheros Wireless adapter in my notebook, using driver ath5k, last week is was doing the same as yours on a fresh install. I believe this is termed brown-out. "Who knows with so many expressions nowadays :)
Check this page...
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EeePC/Fixes

I tried the backport stuff here, and it has worked for my unit. So give it a try...

The actual bit that did it for me was:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-intrepid-generic
sudo modprobe ath5k

I suppose you could just replace ath5k with your driver and then setup the driver a bit more permanently if it works. Just follow this page it should do the trick.
Also note you don't need Mad-Wifi for it to work. You can skip the mad-wifi stuff.

If your wireless adapter is working perfectly, and you can establish that, then the problem is with the router and that means we can't really help you, only your ISP (Net Provider) can.

Regards Chad
