Hi Guys
I'm at work at the moment using an Acer Aspire 1410 netbook with Ubuntu
10.04. I just noticed the touchpad not working here but it does under win
7.
Currently am using a usb mouse. It used to work fine and I'm not sure when
exactly it stopped working as I tend to use the usb mouse for convenience.
Any ideas what I can look at in oder to try and restore its functionality?
James

This sounds like a heat problem to me, possibly a fan has gone,
the processor gets to a preset temperature limit and the internal
protection turns on and shuts it down.
This is so that the chips don't destroy themselves.
The clue that's most important is that you have to wait.

I cleared the vents and fan all was right

Check in your JUNK (SPAM) box to see if they are there.
Same thing happened to me last week: sent a response and it hadn't
arrived - normally it only takes a minute or so to have it back. Noticed
that I had a new message in Junk so went looking. Found that Thunderbird
for some reason only known to itself decided that it was a spam message
and well....junked it :-) .

Hi Vic, you need to learn which Ubuntu version your using. I
assume it is 10.04 but you don't say.
Since you know the video card, you should be able to find the exact
driver software for your system. Try going to the NVIDIA web page
andlook for the driver for a MX440 card.

Didn't he just say that he did that?

Kind regards
Johnny Rosenberg
I believe he did. The notebook I'm on at the moment has the same card
to theis running 8.04 with suggested driver.
What is this "suggested driver"? Perhaps this is where the problem may
lie - how about mentioning the driver number, what do you think?

It's been quite a while since I installed the driver and remember going
nvidia website searching for it, downloading and installing it. Seemshowever
my system has for some reason reverted to the nvidia glx driver?Considering
that I didn't change it to that I find that interesting. In synaptic Ican
see a glx legacy So I'm going to have to look at that again. Back then ISomewhere
matched the recommended driver from the site and installed. Got the black
screen on boot and had to edit for only the 2d side of the driver.
over the week I'll go thru and see if an updated driver exists or maybenow
the glx legacy driver maybe works
I gave up using the driver .run package straight from nVidia as there
seems to be conflicts with it and the Ubuntu lib scheme of things. At
least that has been my experience. So, I just use "hardware drivers" and
let it pick the driver and install it. Works good. Ric
