I believe you need a dose of reality. 1) The OP is not a decision maker,
2) he can hardly attempt to run samba4 alpha13 which will probably not
support everything his employer wants like Exchange and 3) he is not
talking about he needing to implement AD but that his computer needs to
work with the AD that his IT Dept will be implementing.
But it would be nice if Mariano can convince his IT Dept to roll out
samba4 alpha13 to be an AD controller and samba 3.5.6 file/printer
servers and watch their licensing fees drop like a stone. Of course, be
prepared to have Microsoft on your backs as soon as they get the wind of
it when the company backs out of the Windows Server and CAL purchases.

Hi,
I'm a relatively new GNU/Linux user, I'm running on my box at work
Ubuntu (Lucid) 10.04.1 LTS, Kernel 2.6.32-24-generic with Gnome 2.30.2.
The thing is that my employer is implementing an Active Directory Domain
in order to control and manage some 21,000 desktop PCs, and (I guess) I
may be the only one not running Window$ (AFAIK), so they're not catering
for users like me precisely. Which means that, I have to find my way
around if I am to avoid being dragged down to M$. In other words, I need
to give them the solution; otherwise, I have no choice but to go back to
Windoze.
What do you need to do? Be able to access Windows? Be able to join the ADS?
I've installed from the repositories:
likewise-open_5.4.0.42111-2ubuntu1.2_i386.deb
likewise-open-gui_5.4.0.42111-2ubuntu1.2_i386.deb
Is that enough? Or do I need anything else? Any piece of advise on how
to go about it would be greatly appreciated. If more information is
needed, please let me know. TIA.
cheers,
