Anyone on here ever just download the Kubuntu-Desktop package to an
Ubuntu install? I'm wondering if I wouldn't be better off
reformatting and going that route.
For me, that is the only way to go. The kubuntu end-of-things just
seemed to be shot fulla holes, but installing Ubuntu, and then the KDE
desktop has been satisfactory for me. Especially with pulse issues
with kubuntu. I like KDE, as long as it's on top of Ubuntu basic
installation. Enjoy! Ric
Please clear this up for me; Boggess Rod suggested installing
Kubuntu-desktop over a regular Ubuntu (with GNOME) installation,
right? You then refer to the KDE desktop. Do you mean the same thing:
Kubuntu-desktop? I don't find a, "KDE desktop," and think you mean
the same thing as the original poster: Kubuntu-desktop. Yes?
I, OTOH, went with the kde-plasma-desktop which is fairly light-weight
(doesn't pull in too many default packages which is what I want)
compared to both Kubuntu-desktop and kde-full and seems pretty stable
to me (although it's true that I don't use it often).
I did then install KStars, too. It's fun! ;-]
I still use most of my own choice of programs, though, not necessarily
those which are default for KDE, GNOME, Kubuntu or Ubuntu.
