Best Alternative Operating System To Ubuntu?

Hi,

Been using Ubuntu for years, but it is time for a change.
Many believe like me that Ubuntu design is deteriorating rapidly.

I'm looking for the best Linux Operating System to replace Ubuntu.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

I like PCLinuxOs. It uses a "civilized" version of KDE--4.6.4.
The log-in screen is not to my liking, but the desktop screen can be
customized with any kind of picture you have available. You can put
icons on the screen to help you start apps that you use frequently.
Like most other Linuxes today, you get Libre Office, whether you like it
or not, but you can use Abiword, or you can d/l IBM's office suite for free.
(It starts up kinda slow.) Pclos also uses legacy Grub, so you can add
other os's to menu.lst without difficulty. I read that Grub2 is not
so easy to deal with.

The version of Mint that came out in 2010 was based on Ubuntu, and was nice.
I don't know what the latest version looks like.

Also, there is Zorin, which I also looked at in 2010 and liked, and it was
also based on Ubuntu, but had some XP-like features that you might like.
Again, I don't know what the 2011 version looks like.

A lot of Linux distros are now offering GUIs that they never did before;
if Mint only offered Gnome, now you can probably get kde on it, for instance.
I think you can even get kde on Ubuntu, so you might look at that. But
I think Ubuntu's push to Unity will eventually relegate it to the
sidelines. And I don't like Debian's politics: you can't get Thunderbird
or Firefox, but only cheap imitations, because of some political or
ideological cant from the devs. (I'll keep the progs and icons I'm used to,
thanx.)

Just my 2¢. --doug

I suggest that you d/l the live versions of all of these and see if you
like any of them.
