Polling for drive /dev/dvd have been disabled. The fdi file written
was

/etc/hal/fdi/information/media-check-disable-storage_model_CDRW_DVD_S
N_324F.fdi andy@TOBY:~$

Is that a permanent or per session command?

Like the message said, it has written the *.fdi file which is a
permanent configuration file.
