This is good advice - I agree, strongly.
The machine I call "Mom's Machine" here is an emachine. Ubuntu didn't like it and the emachine didn't like Ubuntu, or Fedora. But, it did like gOS and Caldera. Since Caldera is so old it creaks, gOS (which is 8.04 ubuntu based) might be what he needs. I put Caldera on it, partly out of nostalgia and partly out of meanness. I recall it didn't like a video card jammed into it. I think it's a Pentium II model.
I hardly have the heart to boot it, as it keeps trying to upgrade Netscape. Breaks my heart to see it spin it's wheels. <grins> Ric
