You'll need OpenJDK version 7 to get closer to full java. Ric

That's an ambiguous statement, Ric. Please define "full java" in this
context. As you may or may not know, OpenJDK 7 (the reference
implementation) was the basis for a backwards branch to create OpenJDK 6.
I don't know how much more "full java" you can get. Or are you talking
about SNMP support? That's not even mandatory according to the Java
language specification.

The java project, which is heavily graphical, we use would never run on OpenJDK6 and we ~had~ to run Sun's java 6. We're getting reports that it will run on OpenJDK7 which is more closely derived from Oracle Java JDK7. Plus, 6 did not handle multi-cores at all. 7 will. I've run it both ways, with a GUI cpu manager running both occcasions. Java 6 wrang the devil out of one core. With Java 7 I see 3 cores handling the load, out of 6. I'm a happy camper. That has been my direct experience from testing.

To me, "Full Java" equals running ant and having a successful build outcome. One works and one never did. Ergo, the then Sun Java 6 worked, and OpenJDK lacked what made Sun Java work. Trust me, I'm plenty lazy enough to rather run from what is in the repos. I do plan on giving OpenJDK 7 a try again, once I get my faulty power supply replacement back for my server. :) Ric
