Question concerns winmodems, XP machines with 2 hard drives, modern video
cards. etc.
I found old book with single Cdrom Debian Gnu/linux unleashed. With no
previous successful experience I done installed it on a PC running Win98
and configured LILO to dual boot. So far so good. What i really want is a
fancy package and to run X server also connect to internet. ==> Can I use a
winmodem? Couple years ago I heard you needed a ISA modem not PCI. On that
old machine I can put a ISA modem if need be and X server should not have a
problem with the old S3 video 2 meg card.
I also got 2 new machines that run XP with fancy video cards like
forinstance S3 PRoSavageDDR and wonder if GnNU/Linux has XFree86 packages
developed yet that can be downloaded for these snazzy types of display
adapters since the last time I investigated the idea of running linux was
in the 1990's and the hardware support was a little behind what was
available off the shelf or so I thought.
onather question is should I try to dual-boot on the same HD as XP or should
I just try to boot from the 2nd hard drive or a combination of the 2. I
apoplogize if this is a stupid question.
