Next time you might want to try "linux nofb" (no frame buffer). You can
apply boot parameters by pressing "esc" when the graphic boot menu
appears.

"Gimp" is a graphics editor almost comparable to photoshop. Guess you
mean lilo or grub (bootloaders)?

Vicious circle, but you can break out easily by inserting the 1st install
CD, again press "esc" or "F1" or whatever it tells you for "more
options". Then use "rescue" and either restore windows or linux
bootloader.

Guess because you have formatted your XP as NTFS, so linux chose to make
it's own partition the "active" one (cause it couldn't write the
bootloader elsewhere). You will need fdisk (rescue mode, or the dos
fdisk) to make the 1st XP partition bootable "active" again. Then you
can fdisk/mbr to remove your "gimp" or grub.
