I would post this on Experts-Exchange too if I hadn't used up my meager
    allowance of points already...

    Getting back on the subject...
    > what happens when you try to move the mouse back to the dark region?
The primary monitor remains powered off, and my scope shows no sync signal
coming from the card. However, the system continues to act as if there is a
display there, e.g. I can move windows and the mouse cursor throughout the
entire desktop (off the side of the working screen), and the the taskbar and
icons and everything are apparently over there too, making the system a
    little inconvenient to use! :)

There were no obvious errors when X started up, but I guess maybe something
is crashing when the cursor leaves the primary screen?
I will check every log file I can think of. In the mean time, is there
anybody who has heard of a similar problem?

...and I can't believe I'm saying this after so much complaining about
offtopicness, but I can actually remove the addresses themselves as opposed
to just blocking them, so even if I had a cap on my email bandwidth, it
wouldn't be an issue. I think of it as making it harder for spammers as I am
adding bum addresses to their lists! And consider this -- for every 2000
spams that bounce off my nonexistent addresses, that's 2000
undeliverable-message errors pissing off spammers' ISP's!

    Thanks!
