Why? They are updates to the current distro... such as if there is a hole in
Sendmail, the "Security Update" has the latest version... quick and easy fix.
Now, if you don't do this, then you are responsible for your own system. And I
hope you know how to install your own updates/fixes/patches etc...

How about giving us some details on how this supposed person hacked into your
system, and how you are positive it was because of some security update? I
Highly doubt you were hacked into at all. I've been using the "Security
Update" since its inception. Not one single hack attempt attributed to it.
I'm also starting to hazard a guess here that you are not familiar with Linux
    at all.

Oh please... I'm not a Debian whatever your calling them. But flaming is due.
If you are poping off this attitude over Debian, why did you even try it? Why
didn't you stay with your mandrake and redhat? Can you you say security for
the /dev/dsp? Again, you have to know Linux to understand this, and you do
    not.

So, lemme guess, you went through the task selector and used the deselect...
There are 2 programs for selecting your packages... you can use one or the
other or both... You of course used the harder, more interactive deselect. As
for no search... of course not... you have to KNOW what your doing to use
Debian. As for updating and installing additional packages... I guess you
don't know how to use a tarball. Debian is not like Conectiva, Mandrake or any
of the other main packages... Geez... someone didn't do their homework.

Again, I would like to see some information about this supposed hack. But
after reading your entire post... I can understand why too. Go back to RedHat
where you belong... your complaint about the 2.2.2 konquer and Gnome are
baseless and worthless.. Because you have no clue you are attempting to advise
others? All that we see is a clueless, unknowing, idiot. Spouting off
    untruths and false acusations.

Wwindows users having "Security Problems" are because they dont do the updates.
The recent occurances proved this. M$ came out with the DCOM patch/fix in
their update site. So, all those that patched their systems were not hit by
the mblaster and sister virus's... whereas the rest of the world... did. What
occured, someone found this hole... they posted it in Bugtrak, M$ releases a
patch that fixes this exploit. Now, a month after this release of a patch from
M$ someone wrote a script using the knowledge from Bugtrak. Everyone that did
not do the update were basically wide open and were hit. So, who are the
stupid ones here? As for your spending 2 days to learn how to install debian
properly. You didn't learn a thing. And I can safely say that the Security
updates <as you refer to them> are a great benifit, and the most useful of all
the flavors of Linux. Everything that CNet, Znet etc said is true and you are
the only Idiot I see here. As for your word, I hope that no one takes you for
anthing but a raving lunitic. You should have done more research, but I highly
doubt that you could find your way out of a box, so, don't bother doing any
more research, just wipe out the computer you just installed, and put your M$
product back on it, or better yet, box the thing up and send it back to the
manufacture, because you are too stupid to even own a computer.

You are a troll and I have finished with you.
