Hi. I have a Sony VAIO who's hard drive is crashing. I have heard of Knoppix
and have tried it but not sure it is what I need.
I want to turn this laptop into a "coffee shop" machine - i.e. browse web,
read email, do office document type stuff.
What distributions of Linux can I use with a busted hard drive? I would like
for the distro to NOT look for a hard drive (I'll try to blank out the drive
in the BIOS) because sometimes the drive works and sometimes it clunks and
hangs Windoze XP. Replacing the drive is not an option right now due to
short funds.
I'd like to eventually do some JSP/MySQL programming on it if at all
possible, but I doubt a distro comes out of the box with JAVA and MySQL
installed..
TIA.
