Are your harddisks s.m.a.r.t.-capable? Then download the smartmontools and
monitor your drive(s). Maybe it's beginning to go south.
Try starting in "interactive" mode by pressing "i" at the appropriate time,
or start with esc and "linux 1", then proceed to "init 2".

Not that I know of. I would suggest check your harddrives.

Good idea: take a look at the logfiles, especially dmesg and boot.log.
