If you use most modern distributions (e.g. SuSE, Mandrake, Redhat, etc.)
they will install a bootloader (LILO, GRUB, etc.) that will handle your
existing Windows partition as well as a new Linux partition. The
installation autodetects most hardware, including dual processors, I am
told. My experience has been favorable with the autodetection, however, I
do not have a dual processor machine to try it on, and I generally have
Linux friendly hardware. As for removing Linux... Why would you want to?
All kidding aside, I'll have to leave this topic for someone else, since
I've kept it on every computer I've installed it on. (I have changed
distributions or versions, though, which only requires installing on top of
the old one). Your Windows system should still be available to you in a
dual boot configuration allowing you to select which OS you boot into. As
to your question about not being able to back out? When you become hooked
on Linux as many of us are... That's the point at which you will not be
    able to back out.

    Good Luck in your endeavor!
