It's been working fine for me on a couple of systems for a couple of
months now... As to if you should uninstall the R/O and install R/W,
it depends on your needs. I'm working hard to get as much of our
critical operations off Windows as I can, but it's tricky (for us), so
I'm kind of phasing things in and out...
I had to rebuild one of our three Windows systems from scratch two
weeks ago because the registery barfed, and another system is showing
signs of the same problems... I've REALLY got better things to do
than reinstall world+dog every 6 months!
To answer your second question, If you read the technical bits on both
of the web sites, you'll find that the two drivers use radically
different approaches. The linux-ntfs driver is using a pure reverse
engineer, which is a heck of a technical feat, but since microsloth
won't tell anyone what they did, is problematical without a whole ton
of testing. Jans approach is to use the windows API reverse
engineering project (captive) to run the official microsoft filesystem
driver, which gets around the reverse engineering issues, but is a
whole other programming challenge. It's more than just a licensing
issue, I'd say.
