I new to linux and i am having a problems starting a jabberd server.
I get an error message that states "cannot open shared object file: No
such file or directory".

I have verified that the object file exist. My question is in two
parts: 1. Is a shared object file the same thing as a dll in windows?
and 2: is there a way i can point the jabber executable to the
directory where the object file exists when it first loads? If this is
not possible with the linux os itself i will post to a jabber
newsgroup.

Thank you.
