Boot problem

Hello,

I've managed to build the 2.4.24 kernel using genkernel (I followed
instructions on gentoo.org). When I boot and select the kernel from grub
boot menu all I get is a black screen, and, the diodes behind Caps Lock
and Scroll Lock pulsate. What does *that* mean? Sigh...
Thanks,
