    I'm running RH9, kernel 2.4.20. When I type

    $ kwrite &

    in bash, kwrite loads and I can go on using the command window; when I
    close the command window, kwrite stays open.

    When I type

    $ xmms &

    instead, xmms loads and I can listen to music while using the command
    window for other things - but when I close the command window, xmms goes
    too!

    Why the different behaviours?
