Linux from Scratch is a bit extreme and may not be needed depending on
how recent the hardware you are installing on is.
It seems as if you have not installed any linux distro as of yet. I'd
recommend installing debian first. The install is pretty naked to begin
with and it may do the trick for you. After you are familiarized with
what is in linux, you can try linuxfromscratch if you feel brave.
