what do you have inside the following file:
* /etc/resolv.conf
You should have something like the following:
#### start of /etc/resolv.conf
search cable.mindspring.com
nameserver 207.69.188.187
nameserver 207.69.188.186
nameserver 207.69.188.185
#### end of /etc/resolv.conf
