Hi gil,

Aphrodite has given you a good pointer there, if your /etc/resolve.conf
is empty it means that you have not setup your DNS servers correctly.

What distro are you using? ( I am using Suse 9.1 )

How are you connecting to the net? ( cable, modem router, pci card
modem? )

As much info as possible please so we can get this sorted out for you.
