Backup system and Restore on Red Hat 9

Hello,

         I backup my system (scsi disk) with this command : dd
if=/dev/sda1 | gzip -v6 | dd of=/backup/svg_system.gz
/backup is another file system.When i restore with this command : zcat
/backup/svg_system.gz | dd of=/dev/sda1 and I reboot, I keep on a black
screen and nothing append.

Any ideas ?

P.S. : sorry for my english i am french
