I would love to have that box :)

Linux is very stable so rebooting and downtime is next to nothing.
Most package upgrades and updates require you to restart the service (or
program) only. This is not the case for kernel-updates ((unless you
install the kexec)).

Linux.

Linux is really a developer's dream; stable and flexible with lotsa tools.
But of course - no matter what OS - one need to know dev. tools and the
implementation language well.

Go for Fedora-Core-2 which is an ideal server and dev. system with large
number of supporters. It is also very great on Desktop !
I use currently Mandrake-10-Official Linux (on only 700MZ, 512MB box!),
but it runs very smoothly in deed. It has a normal office workstation
configuration with multi-media stuff. It has also compilers (GCC/g++)
and Python for occasional sw development.
I've actually never rebooted it because of errors or crash.
Some rare applications have misbehaved but the Linux core has never
given after.
