Hello All,

I am not totally new to Linux but I am not anywhere close to an "expert"
either. I am trying to spread the word of the ease of use and
flexibility of Linux to a few friends. I have one that has an SMC
wireless card that I just can't get to work. It is an older laptop that
he has and I have tried RH 9, FC2, and Mandrake 10 to get this card to
work. I have searched around and it appears that the card is not the
best choice for Linux. There have been a number of posts I have found of
others not able to get it to work at all. I know it is good because I
put it in my XP machine and it took right off. I don't have a lot of
experience it device configuration, but I am willing to learn... I can
get a Netgear PCMCIA card to work on the wired lan so I know the port is
ok. Is there a flavor of Linux I should try that would be better suited
to wireless configuration?

Specs:

Toshiba Tecra 8000 Laptop
300mhz P2
128 Ram
20 gig HD
SMC2635W Wireless PCMCIA Card
Linksys WAP11 v2 or Linksys BEFW11S4 v4
Cable Broadband on Road Runner

Thanks,
Jeffery
