Linux Newbie: Request for Alternatives to MS Exchange

I'm evaluating Linux as a replacement for Win 2K server. We're a small
non-profit org and our sole reason for needing MS Exchange is to share a
resource calendar. We're currently using Outlook on desktops to make use of
a shared calendar. It works well, but MS Exchange is a bear to work with,
too complex for our needs, and very difficult (for me) to backup reliably.
I'd like suggestions on:

1.) A Linux app that would allow us to share a calendar. Preferably, one
that would allow resource scheduling, as well. We need to share contacts,
calendar appointments, and notes in these appointments. It needs to be able
to store contact info as well. We'd have ~5 users via LAN that would access
this.

2.) A suggestion on an easy to install, VERY user friendly Linux desktop for
my workstations. I'll need to make the transition from MS Office as easy as
possible.

3.) As the Linux newbie sys admin, a suggestion for the server distribution.
Again, user friendliness would be wonderful. Just as a personal preference,
it would be nice if the distribution of desktop and server is from the same
source (makes me feel good).

Thanks,
Daryl
