Are they released as fast as the script kiddies exploit the security
holes? If not, then you're on a loser.

I think that's correct.

Of course, since the source code for the likes of Cinelerra is out
there, there's nothing stopping you from writing your own video editor.

iMovie on the Mac offers more for the home user, and it comes bundled
"free" with every Mac in iLife '04. Plus there's iDVD so you can burn
your masterpiece to DVD with chapters, etc, if your machine has a
Superdrive.

I don't think there's any equivalent on Linux.
