    Who's young!?

The Amiga was a computer, released by Commodore in 1985, that was
the most advanced personal computer on the market at the time.
There was a lot of truth to the quip seen in Amiga circles that
"Windows 95 = AmigaOS 85", though Windows still had some catching
    up to do.

Unfortunately, development did not keep pace with the rest of the
PC world, and by the time I gave up my Amiga (in 2000) the cost of
upgrading to anything close to the power of a modern Intel-based
machine would have cost far more than buying a new Intel box.

As it turned out, I didn't have to buy anything; my son replaced
his damaged PII-300 (he couldn't get Windows to work on it) with a
new box and I inherited the old one. I installed Linux and used it
    for a couple of years.

Last year he dropped and damaged his laptop, and Windows no longer
worked on it. I installed Mandrake, and it has been chugging along
    merrily ever since.

I still miss some things about the Amiga, but it was no longer a
    viable machine.
