What distribution are you using? You really should include that information
when trawling for help on the net. It's a bit hard to help someone when they
don't tell you what software they are using. Sort of like someone
complaining that they can't load "Windows" but not telling you which version
they have.
Also, you say the HDD is new. Did this "new" hard disk also work ok in Win98
or have you not actually tested that?
Is your HDD connected to a RAID controller by any chance? If so, you could
try hooking your HDD up to the standard non-RAID ide controller on your
motherboard and see what happens. If for some reason you are not able to do
this you will need to identify your RAID controller, download the
appropriate driver and load it manually yourself.
