    The following is the error that I receive every time that I try to emerge kde either from the shell or within x
    {
    Emerge -k kde
    calculating depedencies ...done!
    >>>> emerge (1 of 82) media sound/cdparanoia-3.9.8-r1 to /
    !!! Cannot create log... No write access / Does not exist
    !!! PORT_LOGDIR: /var/log/portage
    !!! Cannot create log... No write access / Does not exist
    !!! PORT_LOGDIR: /var/log/portage
    >>>Downloading http://gentooo.oregonstate.edu/distfiles/cdparanoia-III-alpha9.8.src.tgz
    --21.42.07-- http://gentoo/oregonstate.edu.distfiles/cdparanoia-III-alpha9.8.src.tgz
                    => '/usr/portage/distfiles/cdparanoia-III-alpha9.8.src.tgz'
    Resolsing distro.ibiblio.org... failed: Host not found.
    }

    is there anything else that I can try. I installed gentoo from a cd and
    everything thing seems to be where is supposed to be. I've tried all the
    options tied to emerge. I need a little help. thanks Happy New year.
