First of all, the X in this newsgroup name has to do with X Windows System, it
has nothing to do with "any linux distro" or "any linux application", for such
things is a news group as alt.linux a lot better. Follow-up has been set to
alt.linux.

I would suspect a faulty modem, if you have to reset it many times everytime
you try to get online, it's just faulty.
