Not advise, just an opinion,
You are going to have a hard time shaking DOS and Windows if you really
depend on those applications that much. Kind of a good thing really, you
should chose your OS based on the applications you want to use and not the
other way around. If you want to have a go at Linux you might take a look
at Xandros http://www.xandros.com/ they have a free version 2.0oc or
something. It is supposed to be designed to be a transition distro. As far
as the Windoz, I have only a little experiance with 2k and XP but from it
I I would say 2k is more streu=ight forward, less crap and glitz. True,
you can turn this stuff off in XP but I still like 2k better. I do run a
DOS application on my 2k box but it nothing to sexy. Only tip here is to
get real familiar with the net command, hey! a command line command in
Windoz just like Linux!
Oh and one more tip, backup backup backup. Don't ya just love that CD
burner!
Have fun! That is one thing Linux is over Windoz, fun.
