Hi there,

I think you have to reinstall from scratch. That will help you a lot and
save you a bunch of time trying to figure out what's wrong and how to fix
it.
For future references, do yourself a favor and make a user account, give
yourself enough privileges so you can do what you need without using root
account.
And make backup, backup and backup.
