Moving to Linux is like starting all over again in computering. A major
distribution is a good bet like Mandrake, SuSe, Fedora, Slackware or Debian.
these have the most people active in improving the product.
Once you pick one, stick with it because all you learn along the way varies
with each distribution and switching can cause you confusion.
It will be one giant learning process with great satisfaction with each
accomplishment as you move to mastering your distribution.
If you want to keep your life simple keep doing what you are doing. If you
want a great challange and are willing do forgo some things you like to do
until you figure out how this the jump is worthwhile. But I would build a
new computer and use that for you new Linux adventure, that way you can
still do some of the things you are used to. Later on you can network the
two computers together and run some of your windows programs under Linux.
Yes, Linux has emulators to run just about any dos, windows or other
programs.
