2 NICs how to activate second one?

I have 2 NICs. When I do an ifconfig though, I only see eth0 and lo. I
tried this:

ifconfig eth1 10.0.0.3 netmask 255.255.255.0

But the system just told me there's no such device. I tried eth2 and eth3,
and they all gave the same error.

Does this mean my Linux install doesn't know about this NIC card? If so how
do I go about getting Fedora to install/recognize it?
