Installed Fedora Core 3 yesterda. Working pretty good except I am unable to
play DVD movies (I installed everything off the DVD install disk). Used
apt-get to retrieve and install libdvdcss, xine, totem, mplayer, but no
joy. Is there any secret to getting Fedora to play movie DVDs that I am not
aware of?
At first I got errors saying (for xine) "xine engine error, there is no
plugin to handle dvd:/:, (mplayer) "couldn't open DVD device /dev/dvd",
(totem) "failed to play audio/video disc, failed to open /dev/hdc for
reading permission denied". So I did a 'chmod a+r /dev/hdc' and I changed
video/DVD device for movie players to /dev/hdc and it looked like i might
get playback as i did not get the errors thus mentioned, but got a new
error saying unable to access video out device (-vo). What is up?
I am trying to make a transition to Fedora, been using Mandrake 9.2. Never
had such problems getting DVD movies to play. Any tips, help? Thank you.
