What are some good resources for learning to compile a new kernel from
source, where I choose what to include or not include in the kernel? Never
done this before, need to learn and do it.
Currently using Mandrake 9.2 (2.4 kernel) which runs great. But I want to
upgrade to the 2.6 kernel, but the problem is that mandrake 10.2 (2.6
kernel) has some rivafb driver in it that interferes with the installation
of nvidia drivers. So if I can compile a new 2.6 kernel capable of allowing
nvidia driver installation, I benefit from that and also not having to buy
a commercial distro (with nvidia commercial drivers built in). Been using
Linux for about 3 years now daily, I think I am up for learning this. Any
resources / book recommendations /best_urls appreciated.
