    Have you seen this document?
    ftp://aiedownload.intel.com/df-support/6805/ENG/readme.txt
I think it is pretty straight forward, and step-by-step

And here is the direct link to the file (from Intel)
    http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/confirm.aspx?ftpDown=ftp://aiedownload.intel.com/df-support/6805/eng/intel-537ep-2.60.80.0-rh9-up.tgz&agr=&ProductID=1230&DwnldId=6805&strOSs=&OSFullName=&lang=por
This site is in spanish, but the tar file is all in English

Is the correct module loaded? (check with lsmod). From my brief reading
of the readme it looks like it should be Intel537 or Intel537.o

Also, this paragraph from the readme looked helpful...
ATTENTION: if the driver compiles but the script just wont work for you.
Here are the bare minimum steps to get your modem to work.

        0. log in as root.
        1. insmod -f Intel537.o (Intel537.ko for kernel 2.6)
        2. you can start "hamregistry &" at this point if you wish.
        3. rm /dev/537
        4. mknod /dev/537 c 240 1 (note "240" is the default, if it does not
work see what /proc/devices says 537's major number is)
        5. ln -s /dev/537 /dev/modem
        6. start a comm application like minicom and use the modem.
        7. see section 3 (International Users) for info on setting the
    correct country settings.
