Let's forget about Intel prosessors immidiedly... Those suck. Xeon is
not suitable for you if you aren't running server for your company or
something like that. And there are much better choises for that server
kind of work too.

Well, I suggest you to get Machine with AMD Athlon64 which is at least
3500+ so that it utilializes Socket 939. It has lots of advanges in
future. Intel prosessors are usually strong in video editing area, but
getting AMD is much wises since what's the point if you can beat it with
intel in about 1 area of 5 when you can have that athlon64 and beat
intel in 4 areas of 5... :)
Besides allmost every new prosessor can handle "office" applications
extremely well so it's not the thing which one you have to choose, but
which one you want. AMD prosessor can handle video editing also really good.

Linux is a kernel of the whole gnu operating system and yeah it can
handle multiple cpus...

For you I'd suggest that if you want a new intel compatible pc with
linux for video editing / running office then get something like...
Single prosessor system. You could also check these new Dual core
prosessors. Then get a good display card for it. you can have extremely
good stuff from nVidia. something like 6600gt or 6800gt are good cards,
but do not even think about buying something with LE or just 6600 or MX
with it. Those suck cause they have 1/4 of the promised power. (but the
price is low to..) for memory cause you are doing video editing then you
need at least that 1gt of 400mhz ddr ram cause you don't need a fast
prosessor if you don't have fast memory for it. rest of the stuff you
can choose for yourself..

well you can get right machine for much easier too... go to
www.apple.com and just get Power Mac. ;)
