So? out of curiosity, how much did you pay?
Let me get this straight. because $vendor packages, ships and sells
various GPL/BSD/Other free licensed packages and take payment for that,
-EVERY- upstream source should obey your command?
if that is your perception, I suggest you buy an exclusive AIX support
contract at IBM. (hint: it won't be as cheap as ordering a 20$ distro set).
did you pay every Open source developer outthere? even those handling
IM-programs like gaim, kopete and the likes? stop whining and fund those
instead if you're that eager getting relatively(in the eye of the
beholder) useless features.
Regardless of choice - this is not a linux issue - it's a
driver/manufacturer/proprietary protocol/IP issue.

Well, start griping at hardware vendors.
start griping at people who use proprietary protocols because it hinders
other systems (by ways of delegated control, protocol changes, etc). a
perfect example could be: msn messenger.
Or refuse to have anything to do with proprietary systems, where
corporations have control of protocol, services, servers etc.

*snore* *yawn* RTFM.

Meh? which worldwide effort? the one you're running? as of yet, it's not
really that efficient. Griping that proprietary/closed standards/source
software/protocols aren't working isn't likely to get get on the
priority list.

You realize that zealots are annoying, regardless of deity. right?

I dare you. abandon it, and watch it wither. Claiming that you are the
sole reason an OS survives is rather...... self-righteous, isn't it?

Yes it is.
By that comparison, one is tempted to ask:
How can you call that a human? is it a human if it doesn't have a brain?
> Surely, red hat or novel can afford a server for linux messagers?
probably? why should they?
> And a cross platform mesanger to allow their users to talk to windows users?
Why would they? by succumbing to the proprietary protocols they're not
changing market shares. what you want is others to use OPEN
PROTOCOLS/STANDARDS SYSTEMS - CATCH THE HINT.

We care? why aren't you asking them then.
Don't confuse sitting around on your arse, waiting for it to
automagically work to fix it. - see previous statement about human
classification and brain functionality.
begone with your endless, pointless, annoying, misguided IM rants.
