Hi
I'm new to Linux and even newer to this site.
For the last 40-45 days, I have been trying different Linux distros on
my "old" P-III 800MHz, 256 Mb of RAM.
I'm trying to familiarize myself with Linux (not exactly an easy task)
and so far, I have installed Linspire 5.0 on HDA and tried different
live CD's.
The other day, I bought the July edition of Linux Magazine and inside,
I found a copy of Xandros 3.0. At first, I thought this was also a live
CD but unfortunately, it was not and I had to install it on my second
hard drive.
I had all sort of problems installing Xandros (had to use a custom
setup to bypass power management) and as I wanted to make sure I would
not lose my Linspire GRUB, I did not install Xandros boot manager on
the MBR.
The LILO is on HDB. When I first tried to boot Xandros after the
install, my Linspire GRUB completely ignored Xandros which is what I
expected.
I, then, tried to "patch" the GRUB so it knows Xandros was there. I
sort of succeeded BUT now, everytime I try to run Xandros, the computer
hangs at "Hardware detection".
I have even tried the "Expert config" mode and noticed that the
computer hangs at "detecting floppy".
I don't have a floppy drive on that machine.
The people on the Xandros forum don't seem able to help me (isn't that
kind of surprising ?).
Is there anyone here who can help me ?
Thanks for your time...
