Xfce is one of the fastest growing desktop environments today, it too is based
on the gtk2 as Gnome2. KDE (3.x series) is quite good and popular too.
Linux does give each user the option to use what they like and not to be
forced into a bandwagon and use what everyone else likes, myself I do use
ctwm, but it don't fit everyone.
